Once you have chosen a day trip from Marrakech, settle three practical details: where you meet, what the day includes and how the return fits your evening. A destination name alone does not tell you whether lunch, a local guide or an extra activity is included.
This checklist supports the five excursions in our Marrakech day-trip collection. If you have not yet chosen between the coast, valleys, waterfalls and desert scenery, use the day-trip comparison by time and walking pace first.
Confirm the exact pickup point
Send your accommodation’s name and full address. Ask whether pickup is at the entrance or at an agreed meeting point, and request directions if you need to walk there. Do not assume the name of a large square or a neighbourhood is a sufficiently precise meeting instruction.
Distinguish the pickup time from the excursion’s departure time. The published programmes need to be matched to your accommodation and chosen route. Keep the confirmed time and a contact for changes together, and let the team know if you change accommodation after booking.
Keep the whole excursion day available
A full-day trip includes the outward journey, visits, meal stop and return road journey. Avoid planning a flight, train or tightly timed dinner around an approximate return time. If you have a fixed commitment, state it before booking and ask whether the complete programme fits.
The Atlas journey to Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate involves road travel in both directions. The full Agafay or Ourika valley circuits also include several stops. A direct drive to one destination is not a reliable estimate for completing a multi-stop excursion.
Check meals and guides against the excursion you chose
On a small screen, swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Excursion | Published inclusion to know | Separate or to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Agafay and three valleys | Simple breakfast, mint tea and local guide. | Lunch; camel ride or a different valley itinerary. |
| Essaouira | Local English-speaking guide and one bottle of water per person. | Lunch, additional drinks and monument tickets. |
| Ait Ben Haddou / Ouarzazate | Local guide and lunch with the private option. | Those services for shared departures; studio visits and tickets. |
| Ourika and three valleys | Local guide and one-hour walking tour. | Lunch and the optional waterfall hike’s route and any supplement. |
| Ouzoud waterfalls | Local hiking guide, bottled water and mint tea. | Lunch, additional drinks and an optional boat ride. |
These distinctions follow the published excursion pages. Confirm the complete inclusions for the date and option you book, especially where private and shared arrangements differ. An activity mentioned in a highlight is not enough to establish its price or availability.
Describe the walking you want to do
Tell the team whether you want a sightseeing stop, a short walk or a longer hike. For Ouzoud, a route down towards the falls also requires a return climb. For Ourika, the included walking tour and the optional waterfall hike need to be distinguished. Ask about the chosen route before deciding whether it suits your group.
Give children’s ages and any practical access requirements in your enquiry. A private departure allows the programme to be discussed, but does not make every path or site suitable for every visitor. Agree the alternative if someone prefers not to do a particular walk.
Resolve optional stops before departure
If you want a studio visit, boat ride, camel ride or a longer guided visit, ask whether it fits the day and whether there is an extra charge. Adding an activity can change time available elsewhere. Have the arrangement included in the written booking so the driver, guide and travellers share the same plan.
Also ask which language is arranged for the guided visit and whether you have independent time afterwards. A driver and a local guide perform different parts of the day; do not assume a guided visit continues for the whole excursion.
The evening-before checklist
- Pickup point, meeting directions and confirmed time.
- Excursion name, private or shared option where offered, and passenger count.
- Included meals and drinks, with dietary requirements already discussed.
- Walking route, optional activities and any separate payments.
- Return location and contact for changes.
- A day bag packed for the destination and forecast.
Use our packing guide for Marrakech excursions for the final item. Review the cancellation conditions attached to the booking before confirming; ask the team if anything in the terms is unclear.
Questions before booking
Is lunch included in every day trip?
No. The Ait Ben Haddou private option lists lunch, while the other programmes above list lunch separately. Check the exact option in your quote.
Can I go directly to the airport after the excursion?
Discuss the flight time and transfer before booking. An approximate excursion return does not confirm that an airport connection is feasible or included.
Should I book the walking activity in advance?
Discuss it during the enquiry so its route, effort, guide arrangement and any cost are clear. Do not rely on deciding after arrival if it is central to your plans.
Send your chosen excursion, date, accommodation and group details to confirm the day’s arrangements.
