Chegaga for Two Nights: Choosing Your Desert Trip

Traveler seated on a sand dune overlooking the desert

Two six-day desert trips can offer different balances of travel and camp time. The six-day Chegaga itinerary gives you two consecutive nights in Chegaga. The site’s separate Merzouga and Chegaga itinerary lists a night near each dune area, with Agdz between them. Those published overnight sequences are a useful starting point for choosing, subject to confirmation with the operator.

Choose more time at one camp

In the six-day Chegaga offer, the first camp night follows travel through Zagora and Tamegroute. The following day remains at Chegaga: the published plan includes an optional guided walk, lunch at camp or a picnic, free afternoon time and a second night in a tent. If an unhurried day around one desert setting is the part of the trip you value most, this sequence makes that possible without another change of accommodation that day.

The offer also takes you through the Todra area and Agdz on the way in, then by the Lake Iriqui area, Foum Zguid, Taznakht and Ouarzazate on the way out. Two camp nights do not mean that all six days are spent in the dunes. There are significant travel days on either side.

Choose two contrasting dune regions

The alternative six-day offer visits Merzouga first and Chegaga later. Its listed nights include a private tent near Merzouga, a hotel or guesthouse in Agdz, and another private tent at Chegaga. This puts two Sahara settings into one tour but does not give you a second consecutive Chegaga camp day. If variety matters more than a free afternoon in one camp, compare that published sequence closely.

These are descriptions of the two published itineraries, not a promise that every optional stop, camp category or price is interchangeable. Ask the operator to confirm current availability and what is included for the departure you choose.

Ask about the details that change the experience

  • Which accommodation is used for the first night in Tinghir?
  • Which camp category and facilities are included, and is a different camp arrangement available?
  • How is the optional Chegaga walk organized, and what is the plan for lunch on that day?
  • How much time is expected at Aït Ben Haddou and Telouet on the return?

For the day-by-day Chegaga sequence, see the planning guide. The camp preparation guide covers luggage and clothing. Make the final choice from the operator’s confirmed itinerary, accommodation and terms.
