Planning a Private Morocco Route: Start and Finish Cities

Morocco Private Tour

The first choice in a private Morocco itinerary is its shape: will you return to the city where you started, or finish somewhere else? That decision determines which road sections are necessary and how much time remains for visits.

Start with your available touring days, arrival city and departure city. Then choose the experiences you most want to include. Our private Morocco tour overview explains the booking approach; this guide focuses on joining the route together. For accommodation, services and price comparisons, use the separate guide to comparing private-tour quotes.

When a round trip makes sense

A round trip is useful when you have flights into and out of the same city or need to collect belongings from the same hotel. It gives you a clear start and finish, but the return journey still needs space in the itinerary. It should not be treated as travel that happens outside the advertised days.

For example, the five-day Marrakech to Erg Chigaga programme returns to Marrakech and includes two desert camp nights. The four-day Casablanca desert tour returns to Casablanca and includes one camp night near Merzouga. These are different routes with different destinations; the extra day is not the only distinction.

When finishing in another city helps

A journey between two cities can fit travellers who arrive at one airport and depart from another, or who continue independently after the tour. Check both the final city and what happens on the final day. Reaching a city and having a sightseeing day there are different arrangements.

The four-day Marrakech to Fes tour reaches Fes on day 3 and uses day 4 for Fes sightseeing. The seven-day Casablanca route via Fes and Merzouga finishes in Marrakech. If you need to return to the starting airport after either journey, request that extra leg explicitly.

Your travel arrangement Useful starting point Question to resolve
Same arrival and departure city A round trip from that city. How much of the final day is needed for the return drive?
Arrival and departure in different cities A route connecting those two cities. Does the published finish match your flight or onward stay?
Flights not yet booked Choose the route shape before committing to airports. Which arrival and departure combination fits the experiences you want?

Choose the desert experience before adding more cities

Merzouga and Erg Chigaga belong to different itineraries. Compare the route, camp nights and finishing city rather than treating every desert stop as interchangeable. If the camp is the main reason for your journey, decide how much time you want there before adding distant city visits.

Likewise, an Agafay excursion from Marrakech is a local rocky-desert experience. It does not replace a Sahara journey with nights away. If you have one free day in Marrakech, start with the day-trip collection and keep that decision separate from a multi-day route across Morocco.

Use overnight stops to judge the pace

Read the proposed itinerary one night at a time. Mark where you sleep, which days change accommodation and which days stay in the same place. A city named on the route may be a short visit, an overnight stop or a full sightseeing day.

For each must-see experience, ask what time is actually allocated to it. If you add a town, ask which visit moves or whether another night is needed. Customising a private trip changes the plan; it does not remove the distances between places.

A practical way to discuss the route is to name three priorities and one thing you are willing to leave out. For example, you might prioritise Fes sightseeing, a camp night and finishing in Marrakech, while accepting fewer short stops along the way. That gives the team a clearer brief than a long list of every place you have seen mentioned.

Check the final plan in one place

  • Arrival location and the first pickup arrangement.
  • Each overnight town and the number of camp nights.
  • Days with a local guided visit and days mainly spent on the road.
  • The finish city, final drop-off and any separate airport transfer.
  • Additional nights or transfers created by your requested changes.

Once the route is agreed, use the private-tour logistics checklist to settle vehicle space, room arrangements and group needs. These details should fit the chosen itinerary, not be added after a price has been accepted.

Questions about route design

Can I finish in a different city?

Several published itineraries already do. A different finish can also be discussed, but it needs a revised route, timing and quote.

Can a private tour include every city on my list?

Only if the available days support the journey. Ask what needs to be removed or how many nights need to be added to preserve the visits that matter most.

Does a longer tour mean more time in the desert?

Not necessarily. Count the actual camp nights and time allocated to the desert stop; extra days may be used for cities or other regions.
