A desert tour from Casablanca starts with an airport and calendar decision: when can you actually begin the road journey, and where do you need to be at the end? Fix those two points before filling the middle with sightseeing. A tour’s advertised number of days does not tell you whether an arrival evening, airport transfer or extra hotel night is included.
Use this guide to organise the travel days around our Casablanca Sahara itineraries. If you are still choosing a duration, the separate comparison of the four-, seven- and twelve-day routes explains their sightseeing and overnight stops.
Start with your arrival date and first night
Send the arrival airport, flight number, landing date and scheduled landing time with your enquiry. Also say whether you will already be staying in Casablanca. Hotel pickup and airport pickup are different starting arrangements, and a flight landing time is not the time you will be ready to leave the terminal.
The four-day circuit begins its road programme towards Midelt. The seven- and twelve-day programmes begin with arrival arrangements in Casablanca. Before booking, ask the team to name your first overnight stop and explain which visits fit after your actual arrival. Do not assume a late landing can be followed by the same programme as an early start from a hotel.
If arrival leaves too little time for the proposed first day, ask for an arrival night or a revised departure day. Have the extra accommodation and transfer shown in the quote, with a clear indication of whether they sit inside or outside the advertised tour duration.
Match the final city to your outbound flight
On a small screen, swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Published route | Where it finishes | What to settle before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Four-day desert circuit | Casablanca | Confirm the final road arrival and any onward airport transfer. |
| Seven days via Fes and Merzouga | Marrakech | Book the onward journey around Marrakech, or request a separate return to Casablanca. |
| Twelve days with imperial cities and Sahara | Marrakech airport on day 12 | Share the flight details so the final transfer can be scheduled. |
A return flight from Casablanca does not automatically fit a tour that ends in Marrakech. A return transfer adds travel and may need an extra night. Ask for that arrangement before comparing prices or committing to flights.
Turn the itinerary into a dated calendar
- Put the arrival flight and any pre-tour hotel night on the calendar.
- Write one overnight location against each touring day. Check that the number of nights matches the programme.
- Mark the desert camp night and the following morning’s departure.
- Add the final hotel or airport drop-off and any independently booked onward travel.
- Ask the team to confirm the dated version, including anything added to the published route.
This catches a common misunderstanding: arriving on the evening before a four-day tour creates an extra night in Morocco, but does not create an extra sightseeing day inside the tour. Similarly, a flight after the last touring day may require accommodation that is not part of the original price.
Ask about the longest road days
Ask which days have the most driving and which include time with a local guide. Treat the itinerary as a sequence of transfers, visits, meals and overnight stops rather than a list of place names. Photo stops and a longer lunch use time within that same day.
If a full Fes sightseeing day matters to you, check the programme carefully: the seven-day route combines its Fes visit with onward travel to Midelt, while the twelve-day itinerary has a dedicated Fes sightseeing day. Adding visits to the shorter programme may require another night rather than simply an earlier pickup.
Confirm the meeting instructions
Request the exact pickup location, meeting instructions and a contact for arrival-day changes. For a hotel pickup, provide the accommodation’s name and address. For an airport pickup, ask where to meet after leaving arrivals and how to report a delay. These details should match the final booking confirmation.
Keep a copy of the itinerary and meeting instructions available offline. For clothing, luggage and the camp overnight bag, use the Casablanca-to-Sahara packing checklist.
Questions about flight planning
Can the tour begin on my arrival day?
It depends on your landing time and the first day’s programme. Send the flight details and ask for a dated itinerary; an additional arrival night may be needed.
Does every Casablanca tour return to Casablanca?
No. The published four-day circuit returns there, while the seven- and twelve-day routes finish in Marrakech. A different finishing arrangement must be agreed separately.
Is an extra hotel night included?
Only if it is listed in your quote. Ask for arrival nights, touring nights and any post-tour stay to be shown separately.
Send your arrival and departure details with your preferred itinerary so the team can check the complete travel calendar.
