“Merzouga and Zagora” can sound like one desert itinerary, but the published seven-day journey is more specific. Its two dune nights are at Erg Chebbi near Merzouga and Erg Lihoudi near M’hamid, reached after travelling through the Drâa Valley and Zagora. It does not list a camp night at Chegaga. That distinction matters when comparing southern Morocco trips.
Choose by the dune stops you want
The seven-day circuit reaches Merzouga on day three, then follows the southern route through Agdez before arriving at Erg Lihoudi on day five. A guesthouse night in Agdez sits between the camps, and the sixth night is in Ouarzazate. Choose it if the combination of Erg Chebbi, the Drâa Valley and the M’hamid area is the itinerary you want to experience. Chegaga is a different dune destination. For example, the six-day Chegaga tour lists two consecutive camp nights there. Compare that with the seven-day route’s two distinct dune areas, separate by a guesthouse night. The choice is about where the itinerary actually goes and how the nights are distributed, rather than a generic “best desert” label.
Compare the pace as well as the destination
The seven-day offer has successive travel stages from Marrakech to the Ouarzazate area, Tinghir, Merzouga, Agdez, the Erg Lihoudi area and Ouarzazate before returning. Each move introduces a new landscape, but it also means repacking and checking in more often. If you would prefer consecutive nights in one desert camp, look closely at the Chegaga option’s day-by-day itinerary. If the route through both Merzouga and the M’hamid area is the attraction, allow for those transfers.
Do not treat the places named in a tour title as a complete list of overnights. Read the daily itinerary and ask where you sleep each night, whether the camp facilities suit you, and how much time is expected at the stops that matter most.
